In the past, hair on the body had a specific purpose of keeping early humans warm. But we’ve come a long way from those early cave-dwellers. Body hair is not a necessity anymore, but rather an inconvenience, mostly to women. Visible hair on the hands, feet, face, and back are a concern for many women. Excess hair can appear due to hormonal imbalance, use of certain medications or pregnancy. There are numerous techniques today which can help solve this problem. Waxing, electrolysis, laser hair removal and a host of creams and waxing strips exist. However, these can be fairly expensive or unavailable to many women. The good news is, many homemade, natural treatments exist for this purpose. As they are natural, they have no side effects and are usually much cheaper than the clinical methods or medicine.
The recipes we’ll look at here are very simple to make and safe to use. Look through them, try different methods and see which one works best for you.
Sugar & lemon for facial hair
Lemon juice is a natural way to lighten the skin and hair. In this case, it will help lighten your facial hair. Mixing it with water and sugar, you’ll get a great mixture for exfoliating as well as hair removal. This can be used with various body parts, but we would advise avoiding the more sensitive areas.
To make it you’ll need:
– 2 tbsp sugar
– 2 tbsp lemon juice
– 10 tbsp water
Mix the sugar and water in a small bowl. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the lemon juice and mix well. Apply this mixture to your face, going with the hair growth, not against it. Let sit for at least 15 and up to 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water, rubbing the mixture lightly with your fingertips. As with any natural remedy, be consistent to see results. Repeat this treatment two or three times a week.
Lemon, sugar, and honey for arm and leg waxing
The previous mixture is good for facial hair removal. However, leg and arm hair require a bit more force and a mixture more similar to wax. By adding honey to the previous mix, you can make a homemade wax, effective for hair removal on both arms and legs. You should keep in mind that, while this is a natural wax, it will still hurt when used, since it works more or less like any regular wax.
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1 tbsp sugar
– 1 tbsp lemon juice
– 1-2 tbsp cornstarch or plain flour
– water, if the paste is too thick
You will also need some fabric cut into strips, a high-temperature container and something to spread the wax with (like a spatula).
To make, first combine the honey, lemon juice, and sugar in the container. Put the mixture on heat until a smooth paste is formed. You can do this in a microwave, heating it for around 3 minutes. The paste may become a little thick. In this case add a bit of water at a time, until you get the desired consistency.
Allow the mixture to cool until it is only warm. Use the cornstarch to clean the body parts you plan on waxing. Using the spatula, spread a thin coating of the mixture where you want to wax. Keep in mind the mixture needs to be warm for this to work. Spread it in the direction of the hair growth. Cover with a strip of fabric, press to stick the wax on the fabric and pull in the direction opposite your hair growth. Repeat until you’ve removed all unwanted hair.
When using this method be careful not to burn yourself. Try it first on a small patch of skin to check how it will react. Otherwise, enjoy your natural hair removal methods.
