Earwax is a body fluid and a sticky substance that can say a lot about someones health. Even though it is really disgusting, next time you clean your ears it is important to take a closer look at the earwax.
The earwax is not only a dirty buildup in our ears. This substance is created to prevent the dirt and bacteria to enter into the ear canal. In other words, the earwax keeps the ears healthy and functional.
Scientists explain that the earwax is a combination of long-chain fatty acids, squalene and alcohol.
Below you can read what different wax colors say about the condition of your health:
YELLOW, WET AND STICKY
This type of wax is the most common type of earwax for adults. The sticky and wet texture of the earwax is perfect for protection of the ear canal and it prevents drying out and becoming itchy.
Despite the fact that gray earwax looks unusual and doesnt appear often, there is no need to worry if you see this color on the cotton swab.
Medical experts explain that the gray color usually occurs as a result of the ears natural cleaning process. However, in case if the wax is dry and brittle and if you feel itchiness in your ear, it might be indication of eczema. If you experience these symptoms it is advisable to visit a doctor.
Pale yellow color of the earwax is typical for kids. It is also important to add that children tend to produce a lot more earwax than adults. Over time, as they get older, the production of earwax gradually decreases.
STICKY AND DARK
Sticky earwax that is darker that usually indicates that the organism is perspiring more than usual. Namely, if you have darker earwax you probably swat more than usual which might lead to body odor. Despite that, darker color is completely healthy.
DARK AND THICK
Certain conditions, such as chronic stress and anxiety may cause the organism to produce more earwax. In addition to that, heavy sweating also may lead to increased production of earwax. In case if the earwax is not removed, it might block the ear canal and cause temporary hearing impairment. Moreover, if your earwax is dark and thick, it is important to clean your ears on a regular basis and thus avoid complications. Dark and thick earwax also is indication that you should reduce the stress and try to relax.
DRY, WHITE AND FLAKY
While and flaky earwax that is dry is perfectly normal type of earwax and doctors explain that it is indication that you are perfectly healthy. People who have this type of earwax usually have less body odor than those people who produce dark ear wax.
BLACK OR DARK BROWN
Dark brown or black earwax looks quite scary but doctors explain that there is nothing to worry about. The reason for dark color of the earwax might be an overproduction of wax (similar with what happens when you are stressed). However, darker color also might be indication that the earwax simply has been in the ear for a longer period of time. Once the wax is removed, the increased contact with oxygen changes the color of the earwax.
WET AND RUNNY
Doctors explain that it is completely normal if earwax comes out of our ears from time to time as that is part of the natural cleaning process. However, if the earwax pours out of your ears in large amounts and if the earwax contains pus or blood, it is warning sign that you have a perforated eardrum and you need to seek medical attention immediately.
If you notice bloody wax you need to get a medical attention immediately. Sometimes, the old earwax looks like a dried blood, but if there is blood, you might have a perforated eardrum.
